Typical Fire Alarm System Operation

 

Lookout Plaza is equipped Fire Panels. The systems will detect, alert, and report smoke or fire in the building through:

a. Smoke detectors

b. Manual pull stations

c. Water flow indicators on the sprinkler system.

 

The actuation of any manual or automatic device shall cause the following:

  1. An alarm shall sound on the floor where the device is actuated, the floor above and the floor below.
  2. The fire exit signs flash on the fire floor, the floor below and floor above.
  3. The floor in alarm shall be indicated on the fire alarm panel located in the Fire Command Center.
  4. In Lookout II only, A recorded tape shall automatically broadcast the following message on the floor in alarm, the floor above, and the floor below:

    "Attention, Attention! An emergency has been reported in the building. Please proceed to the nearest exit."
     
  5. All elevators serving the floors in alarm shall automatically be recalled to the ground floor with the exception of a lobby alarm. In the event of a lobby alarm, elevators will recall to the 2nd level lobby. They will remain at the ground floor and be unavailable for use, except by the fire department with the use of the fire service key, until the alarm system is reset.
  6. The HVAC system will automatically shut down via duct detectors or manually shut down by remote control at Fire Command Center.
  7. Strobes on the level of the alarm, and one floor above and below will flash upon activation of an alarm.
  8. All stairwell doors will automatically unlock upon activation of an alarm.

 

The Fire Command Center is located off of the mail room in Lookout I and the Basement by Security in Lookout II. The Fire Command Center provides:

  1. In Lookout II only, Manual voice alarm paging to each alarm zone.
  2. Monitoring of sprinkler systems.
  3. Monitoring of all fire alarm devices, manual and automatic.
  4. Manual control of elevators.
